4. Offences Any person who - (a) contravenes any provision of this Act or any regulation made under it; (b) for the purposes of, or in connection with, this Act or any regulation made under it- (i) makes a statement which he knows or ought to have known to be false or misleading in a material particular; (ii) personates or falsely represents himself to be a person entitled to a document; (iii) alters a document; (iv) produces or makes use of a document which is false or misleading in a material particular or has been altered, unless he proves that he had no knowledge that the document was false, misleading or had been altered, shall commit an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding 2,000 rupees and to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year.
