Promoting all-round, harmonious and sustainable development of economy and society on the land full of hope has become the basic policy for China's development since China comes into a period of fast development. In order to realize this target as well as to protect and improve global living and ecosystem environments, China is speeding and strengthening the environmental legal system construction including environment legislation, technical rules and standards.
With the good will to be in line with international environmental treaty and international practice and to learn from, draw lessons from and absorb the advanced experience of foreign environmental legal system construction, the Environment and Resources Protection Committee of National People's Congress (NPC/ERPC) therefore decides to hold The International Forum on Environmental Legislation and Sustainable Development (IFELSD 2007) .
IFELSD is the highest level of this kind on environment legislation organized by Chinese government. Themed with Environmental Legislation and Sustainable Development Strategies, around 7-12 sessions of keynote and special speeches will be held during the forum covering wide areas of air, ocean, land, desert, island, wild life, natural reserves, global climate, noise, solid wastes, city planning, environment rights, etc. Over 400 participants of Senior Officials, experts, professors from countries around the world will be invited to be present.
