REGULATION NOREGULATION NO. 003/SEMA - 04/11/75 THE SECRETARY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, by the power vested in him bySection C of Article 4 of Decree No. 73.030, of 30 October 1973; In view of the fact that pollution caused by mercury and itscompounds is extremely serious due to its consequences for human health and thebiotic water communities, especially taking into account the ability of thesepollutants to become concentrated in the food chain of aquatic fauna; In view of the scientific criteria suggested by the Water QualityCriteria of 1972 from the Environmental Protection Agency of the United States,which serves as a world-wide guide for the establishment of regulations; RESOLVES: a - Total mercury concentration shall not exceed 0.10 micrograms perliter of water in marine water and 2.0 micrograms per liter of water in publicsupply sources. b - Parties responsible for introducing effluent which takes overthe aquatic receptor body, although only in restricted areas which are pollut...
