The Nature Conservation Act No. 44, 22 March 1999Ministry for the EnvironmentCHAPTER I Objectives, scope and definitionsArticle 1 Objectives of the ActThe purpose of this Act is to direct the interaction of man with his environment so that it harm neither the biosphere nor the geosphere, nor pollute the air, sea or water.The Act is intended to ensure, to the extent possible, that Icelandic nature can develop according to its own laws and ensure conservation of its exceptional or historical aspects.The Act shall facilitate the nation's access to and knowledge of Icelandic nature and cultural heritage and encourage the conservation and utilisation of resources based on sustainable development.Article 2ScopeThis Act shall apply in Iceland, within Icelandic territorial waters and exclusive economic zone, cf.
