REPUBLIC OF LATVIA PLANT VARIETIES PROTECTION LAW CHAPTER ONE GENERAL PROVISIONS Section 1. The aim of this Law The aim of this Law is to define the procedure for granting of breeder’s right and provide the protection of breeder’s right. Section 2. Scope of Application of this Law (1) This Law applies to varieties of all plant genera and species (including hybrids). (2) Variety means a plant grouping within a single botanical taxon of the lowest known rank, which grouping, irrespective of whether the conditions for the grant of a breeder’s right are fully met. It can be defined by the expression of the characteristics resulting from a given genotype or combination of genotypes, distinguished from any other plant grouping by the expression of at least one of the said characteristics.
