The Saeima1 has adopted andthe President has proclaimed the following Law: Law on the Supervision of the Handling of Food Chapter IGeneral ProvisionsSection 1.The following terms are used in this Law: 1) hygiene requirements – a set of requirements which characterises all the circumstances and measures which are necessary, in order that, in the stages of the handling of food, the harmlessness of food in human nutrition shall be ensured; 2) inspection – the activities of authorised competent authorities which are conducted to test the development of food products at the project level, the food products themselves, the handling of food and services associated with such, and to evaluate their compliance with the specific requirements of regulatory enactments;3) quality - the set of characteristics that ensures the compliance of food with the needs of consumers and the specific requirements of regulatory enactments;4) harmless food - food which, in normal or anticipated conditions of its u...
