BIODIVERSITY LAWTHE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF COSTA RICADECREE:CHAPTER IGENERAL RULESARTICLE 1.- Object The object of the present law is the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable use of the resources as well as to distribute in an equitable manner the benefits and derived costs.ARTICLE 2.- SovereigntyThe state will exercise total and exclusive sovereignty over the components of biodiversity.ARTICLE 3.- Area of applicationThis law will apply to the components of biodiversity that are found under the sovereignty of the State, as well as to the processes and activities carried out under its jurisdiction or control, independently from those effects which manifest themselves inside or outside the zones subject to national jurisdiction.
